After two successful albums with local traditional music arranged in a contemporary way, we decided to invite Mathijs Bertel (Ansatz Der Maschine) to give our music a new boost. Old melodies are put into a new light with the use of his organic samples, beats and soundscapes. We found inspiration in one of the true classics of Flemish literature: the book “Houtekiet”, written by Gerard Walschap in 1939. It tells the story of Jan Houtekiet, a tramp who lives in the moore, who founds the village of Deps, where absolute freedom reigns and the rules of the outside world are rejected.
